Sheboygan International Formation Clinic - 2022

Please join us for a pre-Oshkosh, T-28 International Formation clinic in Sheboygan, WI from from July 21-25, 2022.

Don't miss this opportunity to join in the pre-Oshkosh camaraderie, and optionally participate in formation proficiency flights or training. All T-28 owners and pilots are welcome! (SBM emeriti are invited to attend Sunday banquet and OSH Tuesday dinner; please register for one or both using this page.)

Trainees must review our Formation Training Program before attending any NATA clinic, and pay particular attention to aircraft requirements.

Arrival day is Thursday July 21, 2022, and the clinic will begin with a ground school Thursday at 1600, if needed, for any participants pursuing a qualification (Wingman or Lead). Attendance is mandatory for participants who have not attended a formal, instructor-taught ground school.

There will be a mandatory safety briefing at 0800 on Friday.

Canadian arrivals may clear customs at the new building next to the museum (details below).

For those planning to attend AirVenture, practice for mass formation flying will take place on Saturday and Sunday. (Monday morning will be our "rain day" practice). The clinic will end on Monday after lunch when we depart for OSH. Pilots not qualified to participate in the mass formation may leave earlier on Monday to arrive at OSH before the air show begins.

NATA Leads and Check Pilots are asked to arrive on Wednesday to participate in an important IP/CP meeting at 0900 Thursday July 21st, and a formation sortie or two afterwards.

NATA will comply with any local, state or federal restrictions related to COVID-19, and may be forced to cancel this event at short notice. In that case, a cancellation fee would not apply; instead, all fees collected would become credits on member accounts. Participants are aware of the risks of COVID-19 infection due to exposure to other people, whether symptomatic or not, and whether direct or indirect. More information is available on the CDC website at this address: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov. The Hold Harmless agreement that all NATA clinic participants must sign includes acknowledgment and acceptance of these risks.

Please review ALL of the registration steps below before proceeding:
  • REGISTER ONLINE. Begin by clicking on the Register Now button, supply the requested information, and pay the registration fee. Late registrants will receive their name patch after the clinic. (You must be logged in to see the button. If you wish to upgrade to a Formation membership, use this link to contact membership@flynata.org. The non-PIC member registration option may ONLY be used by members who will not be piloting aircraft at the clinic.)

    • TRAINING? To be added to the list of trainees at the clinic (Wingman or Lead qualification), check the "Formation training" box during registration. Please do not check the box if you are participating for proficiency flying or as an IP/CP.

  • INSURANCE. E-mail to the clinic lead (contact info below) a Certificate of Insurance that meets NATA's Clinic Insurance Requirements.

  • HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT. You must accept the HH terms during registration, then DOWNLOAD the agreement here, print it, sign and witness, and bring hardcopy to the clinic. Each person registered, including guests, must sign an agreement.

  • ALLOW TEXT MESSAGES. Clinic organizers may use text messages to relay information to participants during the clinic (e.g., weather-related updates). Please allow NATA to send you text messages by visiting the Contact Information tab in your profile, and checking the box under your mobile number in Other Contacts, towards the bottom of the screen. Review your personal Contact Information here.
Other Information:
  • HOTEL. Sheboygan is hosting many events that weekend and many hotels are already sold out! Promptly make your reservation at the Grand Stay: call 920-208-8000 as soon as possible, but no later than June 1st to request a room in our T-28 WARBIRDS block ($130/night, plus taxes). No charge if canceled by 3pm on arrival day (and they have been flexible with weather delays in past years). Once the block is gone you may not be able to find a room in Sheboygan.

  • DINNERS. Our Sunday banquet at the museum is being sponsored by the Milwaukee Air & Water Show**. For other dinner reservations, we must commit a party size because Sheboygan is overbooked. The online registration form therefore includes check boxes for group dinners, and Thursday through Sunday nights are pre-selected, by default. The cost, including tax and gratuity, of the selected dinners will be collected during registration. Those who did not prepay their dinner will pay a higher "cash price" on site. Please uncheck the box for any (or all) of the nights that you do not wish to join the group. If you cancel your registration at least 1 week before the clinic, you will be credited for unused dinner prepayments. Alcohol not included in prepaid dinners.  ** We are not collecting money for Sunday banquet during registration; however, if the sponsorship falls through, we will collect $40 per dinner attendee on Sunday.

  • OTHER MEALS. The hotel includes a basic hot breakfast. Coffee, water and snacks are provided in the briefing room, and adult beverages after the last flight of the day. Lunches will be organized as take-out sandwiches on Thu and Mon, and the Sheboygan Rotary will provide lunches Fri, Sat, and Sun.

  • FBO, FUEL & OIL. Burrows Aviation will provide fuel from trucks but charge the self-service price. Park in front of Museum (avoid parking in the red square unless you wish to clear customs upon arrival). Chocks are provided. Bring ropes if you wish to tie down to rings in the ramp. Pre-register using this form and fax it to 920-467-1337, or e-mail to info@burrowsaviation.com. Or call 920-467-6151. Burrows does not keep our oil in stock, so you must pre-order your oil and take all the oil you order (pay when you settle your fuel account). If you wish to ship your own oil to the Museum, please coordinate through Paul Walter.

  • MAINTENANCE. Southern Star Aviation (Texas) is supplying a mechanic (and trailer with tools and parts). We are covering some of his expenses to subsidize the visit (SBM, and later OSH), but pilots should expect to pay for any repairs/parts.

    • Big Wing to Oshkosh. We will depart Monday afternoon to arrive Oshkosh during the warbird air show.
    • T-28s OSH Gathering. During registration, you will have the option of pre-registering for our annual OSH dinner on Tue 26th at TJ's, where we have reserved a private room.
